Goals from Pedro and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at either end of the match were enough to see Chelsea past Fulham in a 2-0 win in the West London Derby.
Pedro broke the deadlock for the hosts in the fourth minute following a mistake from Jean Michael Seri as Ranieri experimented with a diamond midfield.
Fulham rallied in the second half with Calum Chambers coming close on a few occasions, but substitute Ruben Loftus-Cheek sealed victory for the hosts (82) after some fine combination play between Eden Hazard and Pedro.
Chelsea climb above Tottenham after they lost at Arsenal, while Fulham remain rock bottom and without a clean sheet all season.
Maurizio Sarri: "About the performance, I think the result was important. We started well. At 1-0, I think the players had a very good level of application and attention, but we were a bit nervous. Of course, it wasn’t easy, the days after Tottenham, for me and the players, but I think that we have thought too much about that match. We lost a match after 3½ months. It can happen."
Claudio Ranieri: "It’s strange to tell, but I think we played much better today than in the Southampton match. We have to continue in this way. My players must understand better my philosophy. I play very, very fast. Today we made good decisions in a very short time. Under pressure from Chelsea, it was difficult to play. We were prepared, but now we think about the next match."
