After a summer of speculation, Barcelona have finally found a new home in Germany for unwanted star Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January of 2018 for a €145 million fee, making him the third most expensive player in the world, and Barcelona’s most expensive ever, but a season of inconsistency and inability to find a home in Ernesto Valverde’s system saw the 27-year-old become surplus to requirements just a year and a half later.
Whilst playing a career record number of 54 games last campaign, Countinho spent the season shifting positions completing the full 90 minutes on only 9 out of his 34 league appearances, starting on the bench in 12 of them, notching just five league goals.
The former Liverpool star was linked regularly with Premier League teams before the English window shut early two weeks ago, leaving Bayern as a surprise option as Coutinho becomes the teams only Brazilian, as opposed to his rumoured prefered option of joining his international compatriots at PSG, most likely in exchange for Neymar.
Coutinho joins an eclectic list of superstar signings to flounder at the Nou Camp with the likes of Malcom and Zlatan Ibrahimovic only playing two seasons combined despite costing over €110 million in transfer fees between them.
After Neymar’s €220 million transfer to PSG Coutinho was bought in alongside Frenchman Ousmane Dembele but with neither hitting the ground running at Barcelona, fans have become slightly worried by Antoine Griezmann’s debut in a 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao which saw him notch zero shots alongside a 50% dribble success and one key pass.
"The coach will decide where I play, but my favourite position is the 'number 10' role.

It means a lot to have so much trust put in you. I hope I can stay here for a long time and win lots of trophies." #MiaSanMia #ServusCoutinho pic.twitter.com/piKkwmbZh5
