Trident are firing for Fulham team with stats on their side

      The Championship's most fearsome trio

Fulham may only sit seventh in the Championship at the moment, but they boast the hottest trio in the second tier and top a host of stats.

Relegated from the Premier League last term, Scott Parker's side have recovered well from a surprise opening day defeat to Barnsley and are a joy for the neutral fan with their possession-based game.

Summer signing Ivan Cavaleiro has added power and quality in the offensive third, and it is no surprise that he has hit the ground running this season. The Portuguese forward has four goals and three assists so far this term, and the attacking trio he has formed with Tom Cairney and Aleksander Mitrovic is currently the Championship's most dangerous.

Cairney's wonderful left foot has been in fine nick this season and the Scottish midfielder has scored five goals (including a fair few belters!) and supplied three assists. Unsurprisingly, Serbian international Mitrovic - fresh from three goals in this international break - is also thriving in the second tier and currently leads the goal charts in the division with eight strikes to his name.

All told, the Cairney-Cavaleiro-Mitrovic trident has contributed 17 goals and 6 assists in 2019/20, and the Cottagers are likely to stay in the middle of the promotion mix if those three keep firing.

A quick look at Fulham's team stats this season also suggests that they must be viewed as one of the favourites for automatic promotion.

The West Londoners currently top the division in terms of chances created (74) and shots on target (61). Add in the fact they have averaged 63.7% ball possession and completed more passes (6469) during this campaign and the picture that emerges is one of a dominant team with quality throughout.

The Championship is a strange animal and teams with less impressive statistics may conceivably out-perform Fulham, in terms of points on the board.

However, the stats are piling up in the Cottagers' favour and they appear a good bet for a Premier League return come next May.
