Ten-man Manchester City hung on for a 1-1 draw against Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night - but finished the game with defender Kyle Walker in goal.

Playing in the San Siro, as Atalanta's ground doesn't meet UEFA requirements, Pep Guardiola's City featured all of their big guns, with only Sergio Aguero left on the bench.

Perfect start

The game couldn't have started better for the Sky Blues, as Raheem Sterling slotted into the bottom corner on 7 minutes after a fantastic backheel assist from Gabriel Jesus.

City stayed on the front foot throughout the first-half, pressurising their Italian hosts and creating plenty of chances to double their score. Jesus missed from the penalty-spot, however, just before half-time and the Premier League champions had to settle for a one goal advantage at the break.

All change!

Although there was no hint of trouble at the interval, the second period turned into a nightmare for Guardiola's side.

Ederson was subbed off for Claudio Bravo at the break, for no obvious reason, and four minutes after coming on Bravo was picking the ball out of his net.

Atalanta's equaliser came courtesy of Mario Pasalic, who headed home inside the box after a great cross from Alejandro Gomez, which effectively took Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi out of the equation.

Buoyed by their success, the Italian side showed more desire and looked particularly dangerous from set-pieces, while City struggled to reassert themselves.

Bravo sees red!

A dramatic finale was in store. Sub goalkeeper Bravo's shocking evening went from bad to worse, as he was sent off after fouling Josip Ilicic with no defensive cover.

With no other goalkeeper on the bench, City had to choose an outfield player to go in goal for the last 10 minutes. Kyle Walker took the responsibility, the England international subbed on to don the gloves.

One save from Walker apart, City closed ranks and held on for a point.

Although they have yet to guarantee qualification, City are in a strong position in Group C. They top the group with 10 points, five points clear of both Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb - who drew 3-3 this evening. Atalanta, meanwhile, retain a slim chance of qualification after putting their first point on the board tonight.
