Manchester City took an important step towards the League Cup final with a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
The Citizens went in front with only seven minutes played after a superb strike into the top corner from a revitalised Bernardo Silva. Man City doubled their lead when Silva picked up possession in the centre circle, and slipped a pass down the middle of the pitch to Riyad Mahrez, who rounded David De Gea and rolled it home.
And it began turning into a nightmare for United when Kevin De Bruyne blasted through Phil Jones, before firing a shot at David De Gea, who saved the initial effort but the ball cannoned out, hit Andreas Pereira, and flew in.
In the second-half, United pulled a goal back through Marcus Rashford on the 70th minute with Mason Greenwood looking lively, attacking City's box before finding Marcus Rashford who had made a smart run outside him and took the ball between two defenders to finish low into the corner.
The Second Leg will be played on January 29 at the Etihad Stadium.
