Che Adams reportedly top Leeds' January transfer wishlist

TRANSFER TALK | Che to the Championship?

Strikers are in hot demand in the Championship at the moment - with the majority of the top half looking to add a centre forward to their ranks if possible this January.

Currently playing second fiddle to the prolific Danny Ings at SouthamptonChe Adams is reportedly wanted by several second tier promotion pushers...

As of yet, Che Adams' move to the south coast hasn't worked out as planned at Southampton, the ex-Birmingham front man still awaiting his first Premier League goal after 15 Premier League appearances for the Saints.

The 23-year-old has struggled to adapt to the Saints' style in the top flight and Danny Ings' terrific form (he has scored 13 of his side's 25 league goals in 2019/20) has put Adams firmly in the shade.

After starting Southampton's first six Premier League games of the season, Adams has only made the starting line-up on two occasion since...and he is subsequently being linked with a potential move away from St Mary's this month.

After his exploits with Birmingham, the Championship hasn't forgotten Adams - who forged a fearsome partnership with Lukas Jutkiewicz last season on his way to netting 22 goals for the Blues. So, who is he being linked with, and what are the odds of him going?

On the move?

Despite Southampton's stance on Adams not leaving unless a replacement is found, several Championship clubs are reportedly in contact with the Saints and monitoring Adams' position closely.

Southampton have themselves been linked with a few strikers and, should fresh blood arrive, Adams could find himself a step closer to the exit door. Which Championship clubs are interested in the 23-year-old though?

  • Leeds - The favourites in the chase reportedly, Leeds have been repeatedly linked with Adams, who has been identified as a top target by both the Leeds board and Marcelo Bielsa. However, the Whites to date have not received much encouragement from Saints.
  • Nottingham Forest - Sabri Lamouchi's side, fourth in the Championship, are being linked to pretty much any striker worth their salt...and their name has entered the fray in relation to Adams this week.
  • Birmingham - Adams returning to St Andrew's may be a dream move for Blues fans, but this seems a real long shot. Birmingham's financial situation has left them facing questions regarding their Championship safety this term...and it seems very unlikely that Adams will be rekindling his fantastic partnership with Jutkiewicz any time soon.

At the time of writing, the links with Leeds rumble on...and Elland Road seems the most obvious destination for Adams should he move this January.

The verdict

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl looks more intent on strengthening his offensive options (Southampton this week linked with Le Havre's Tino Kadewere) than weakening them and, though Adams may be a player in demand, the chances of him leaving the St Mary's Stadium during this window appear slim.
