England captain Harry Kane has been sidelined with a hamstring injury until April.

The 26-year-old Tottenham striker suffered the injury in a New Year's Day's defeat to Southampton and will now undergo surgery.

Kane is set to return to training two months before Euro 2020 starts.

"Following ongoing assessment by our medical staff over the past week, we can confirm that Harry Kane will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hamstring," a Spurs statement said.

The forward has continued to find the net regularly this season and had scored 27 goals in 31 appearances for club and country prior to his injury.

Spurs currently sit sixth in the Premier League, six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

In addition to missing games in the top flight, Kane will be absent for Tottenham's Champions League last-16 tie with Germany's RB Leipzig.
