Liverpool’s youth team put in an impressive performance to knock out a Shrewsbury side that held the seniors in the initial game of their FA Cup fourth round tie.

An unfortunate own goal from Ro-Shaun Williams settled the match as he headed the ball over his on-rushing goalkeeper into an empty net on the 75th minute for a 1-0 Liverpool win.

Liverpool though, were well worth their victory, stopping Shrewsbury from producing a single shot on target as first team reserves Neko Williams and today's captain Curtis Jones set the tone for a surprisingly dominant performance.

Well regarded Welsh right back Williams had multiple opportunities to score, as his side took the game to the League Two outfit who had dominated the first team just as much in a fantastic two-goal second half display nine days ago.

Shrewsbury did have the ball in the net in the second half though, but VAR kept them shotless on the score sheet, ruling the goal was offside.

Youth team coach Neil Critchley led his side in a senior game for the second time this season, after losing 5-0 in the League Cup to Aston Villa in December due to Liverpool’s successful run in the FIFA Club World Cup.

First team coach Jurgen Klopp received plenty of criticism for his decision to not take part in the fourth round replay with his first team, citing the Premier League’s winter break, but he will now have the opportunity to face Chelsea in the fifth round.
