Premier League strugglers are calling for relegation to be scrapped if the top flight campaign is completed, but the Championship is not.
Talks earlier in the week saw representatives from Premier League clubs discuss 'Project Restart' - which currently aims to get England's top division back underway by 12 June.
Currently six points adrift of safety, Norwich City have been leading calls for Premier League clubs to stay in the division come what may if the Championship is unable to fulfil its fixture list.
"What we could not accept is a situation where we play all our games and get relegated, but the Championship can't play, and they automatically promote some teams who haven't finished the season," Norwich's sporting director Stuart Webber said during an interview with Sky Sports.
"For anyone who has got promoted from the Championship, it is a 46- or 49-game slog. It needs to be settled on the pitch - both coming up and going down."
Further information regarding the intentions of the Championship should be made public later today after an EFL board meeting.
