Blades hard done by as Premier League restarts

The Premier League got off to a low key start after a 100-day absence as Aston Villa and Sheffield United played out a goalless draw - that was livened up by another controversy regarding technology.

With the game behind closed doors due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, both sides observed one minute's silence in memory of all those who have died as a result of the outbreak - both sides and the officials then taking a knee for 10 seconds immediately before kick-off in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

          Hard lines, Blades

An unsurprisingly tentative first period came to life on 41 minutes when Villa keeper Orjan Nyland carried Oliver Norwood's free-kick over his goal-line - only for referee Michael Oliver's watch to fail to signal a goal.

After the break, Villa improved and were denied by some fine work in the Blades goal by Dean Henderson - on loan from Manchester United. No team has, in fact, conceded fewer Premier League goals in 2020 than Sheffield United, who have only shipped six in the top flight all year.
