Anthony Martial scored his first Premier League hat-trick for Manchester United in a 3-0 win over fellow European hopefuls Sheffield United on Wednesday.

In the first-ever start for Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes together in midfield, this was a promising performance for United with treblemaker Martial stealing the headlines.

The French striker opened the scoring with a close-range finish from a Marcus Rashford cross before he doubled his tally by turning home another centre just before half-time from Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Martial secured the match ball with a second-half strike, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men made a statement against Chris Wilder's Blades, who had previously laboured to a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa in their first game back from the suspension.

The result moves the Red Devils fifth, within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea, while Sheffield United sit eighth.

Wolves and Everton punish relegation contenders, while Newcastle and Aston Villa share points.

Another blockbuster combination, this time Adama Traoré and Raul Jimenez, led to the only goal of the game, as Wolves beat Bournemouth 1-0 at Molineux. Almost identical to Wolves' first goal last Saturday against West Ham, Spanish winger Traore swung over an inviting cross for the Mexican striker to head in the matchwinner.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot, as they sit sixth level on points with Man Utd.  Bournemouth remain without a point away from home in 2020 and the Cherries are languishing in the relegation zone, behind West Ham on goal difference.

Norwich suffered a third straight Premier League defeat, as they lost to Everton at Carrow Road to edge closer to the Championship. Toffees defender Michael Keane scored the winning goal in the second half.

The Canaries are bottom of the table, six points from safety with seven games remaining. Everton, meanwhile, are comfortably mid-table, eight points behind Man Utd and Wolves.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa rescued a point through a late header by Ahmed Elmohamady in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at St James Park. The hosts opened the score through Dwight Gayle, but the Villans levelled in the latter stages when Egyptian Elmohamady squeezed in Conor Hourihane's corner at the near post.

This result was not enough to propel Villa out of the relegation zone, but it could prove an important point for the Midlanders, who are now level on points with West Ham and Bournemouth. The Toon are now 13th placed with 39 points.
