Ross Barkley’s lone goal and Dani Ceballos’ stoppage time winner sent Chelsea and Arsenal past Leicester and Sheffield United and into the semi-finals of the FA Cup, where they will face United and City, with both Manchester sides also winning this weekend.
In a meeting of the Premier League’s third and fourth best sides so far this season, Ross Barkley’s clever 63rd minute first time finish was enough to send Chelsea past Leicester and through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
While in Sheffield, there was a slightly lower quality, but far more entertaining clash between eighth and ninth placed Sheffield United and Arsenal, with the Blades denied by the offside flag before Chris Basham’s take down of Alexandre Lacazette in the box with 25 minutes played.
Gunners’ record signing Nicholas Pepe marked an impressive display with a goal from the spot which looked to be the matchwinner until David McGoldrick’s 87th minute equaliser, but then just as stoppage time began, Ceballos found his way into the home area before sneaking a smart finish past Dean Henderson for the winner.
Arsenal will face Manchester City, who later in the day squeezed past Newcastle with a 2-0 win thanks to Kevin De Bruyne from the spot and Raheem Sterling’s late effort, while Chelsea have been drawn against Manchester United who narrowly avoided penalties against Norwich thanks to Harry Maguire’s winner after Todd Cantwell had cancelled out Odion Ighalo’s opener.
