Manchester United continued their impressive 2020 form with a simple win over Aston Villa thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba.
Fernandes scored from the spot again after winning a questionable penalty after a clattering of legs between himself Ezri Konsa, before Greenwood as good as put the game to bed in first half stoppage time, showing off his superb finishing with another bullet long range strike.
And soon after the break, Pogba put the icing on the cake with a wonderfully placed strike from outside the area for United’s fourth league win on the bounce that moves them a point behind Leicester in fourth, and leaves Villa four points from safety with four to play.
Earlier in the day there was another man of the moment on show, as Danny Ings finished off a wonderful sweeping attacking move to give Southampton the lead over Everton after James Ward-Prowse had earlier missed his second penalty of the season.
Then it was Richarlison’s turn to lead his team, collecting a wonderful pass from Lucas Digne that was played from the halfway line, before taking it down and placing it over Alex McCarthy to earn his side a point.
There was far less entertainment on the South Coast though, as two of the league’s most troubled sides since the restart, Tottenham and Bournemouth failed to capitalise on either sides poor form, sharing the points in a drab 0-0 draw.
There was some drama though, as the Cherries thought they had won the game with Callum Wilson’s late overhead kick, but a touch from the arm of Josh King meant that the game ended goalless, and Bournemouth stay in the relegation zone, three points behind Watford in 17th.
