After their first three meetings this season combined for a scoreline of Manchester United 8-1 Chelsea, Frank Lampard was likely sick of the sight of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but thanks to the help of David de Gea, his side put in a fine display to book their place in the FA Cup final.
Chelsea took the game to United early on but struggled to find the back of the net in the first half, before a wince-inducing clash of heads between Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly put a 10 minute half to proceedings, giving a displeased Solskjær the chance to tweak his side.
But Chelsea still managed to strike while the iron was hot, with Olivier Giroud prodding past a struggling de Gea for the game’s lead 11 minutes into first half stoppage time.

De Gea had 15 minutes to think about his error, and it clearly didn’t do him any good, as Mason Mount charged forward and took a speculative shot with less than a minute played of the second half, which de Gea somehow let through him to double Chelsea’s lead.
And with a quarter of an hour to go, a dizzied Maguire decided to also give the Blues a hand, glancing Marcos Alonso’s cross into his own net to put the game to bed.
Bruno Fernandes netted a consolation from the spot after some clumsy defending from substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi, but it did little to distract from an impressive performance from Chelsea, who will now face Arsenal in the final on August 1st.
