Reece James scored his first Premier League goal in extraordinary fashion as Chelsea downed a tricky Brighton side in an intriguing game at the AmEx Stadium tonight.

Frank Lampard handed debuts to Bundesliga signings, and German internationals, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, and it was the former who got things going, latching onto an overhit Jorginho pass showing some phenomenal acceleration before being taken down by Matt Ryan in the Brighton box.

Jorginho unsurprisingly netted from the spot to continue his impressive penalty run in the 23rd minute, but Brighton seemed undeterred, and ended the half competitively.

Leandro Trossard scored a fantastic long-range effort less than 10 minutes into the second period, sneaking the ball under a flailing Kepa, but James then went one up on him with a thunderbolt two minutes later that nearly lifted Ryan’s net into the crowd.

Kurt Zouma put the game to bed 10 minutes later with a well taken but deflected effort to make it 3-1, but as tonight's performance suggests, Graham Potter’s Seagulls may well have a bit more about them in this season’s Premier League.
