Manchester United suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat at the hands of Wilfred Zaha and Crystal Palace in their first Premier League game of the season on Saturday at Old Trafford.

United hardly looked ready to start the season, with the early stages of the game characterised by slow-moving football and with Palace's seventh minute lead deserved, as Andros Townsend arrived at the far post to convert Jeffrey Schlupp’s low cross.

The visitors were far closer to doubling their lead than United were to levelling throughout the game, and they finally got their reward, after Martin Atkinson awarded a penalty after consultation with VAR for a Victor Lindelof handball.

From the penalty spot, David De Gea saved Jordan Ayew's spot-kick but, after more VAR intervention, it was retaken because the goalkeeper was off his line. Wifried Zaha stepped up and converted from the spot to make it 2-0 to Roy Hodgson's side.

Red Devils' new recruit, Donny Van de Beek had an immediate impact when he was called on replacing Paul Pogba, with a smart close range finish with 10 minutes to play on the clock.

However, Palace guaranteed the points when Zaha eased past Lindelof and rifled in his second against his former club five minutes from the end.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will now travel to Luton on Tuesday to play in the third round of Carabao Cup, while Crystal Palace will host another side who won their first two Premier League games, Everton, next Saturday.

Nketiah strike gives Arsenal 2-1 win over West Ham

Arsenal grabbed a late winner to secure a 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League’s evening match at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta's side took the lead after 25 minutes when Alexandre Lacazette headed in a cross from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, scoring his 50th goal for the Gunners. The Hammers equalised in the last minute of the first half when Michail Antonio turned in a low ball from Ryan Fredericks.

The visitors missed out the best chances of the second-half, with Antonio failing to convert a sitter from six yards. Edward Nketiah claimed all three points for the Gunners when he latched onto a Dani Ceballos layoff in the 85th minute, having come on to replace Lacazette.

Arsenal will visit Leicester City in the League Cup midweek, while West Ham will host Hull City.
