Liverpool made it two from two to open their Premier League title defence, with a pair of second-half goals by Sadio Mané putting them past a Chelsea side who shot themselves in both feet.
The game was fairly even in the first half, with both teams tactically very organized and defensively flautless, but the game changed when Andreas Christensen was sent off for hauling down Sadio Mané right before the break.
New £20 million signing from Bayern Munich, Thiago Alcântara, came off the bench to start the second-half, and was soon involved in a fine move which resulted in Mane heading in from Roberto Firmino's cross.
The Senegalese forward doubled his tally four minutes later when he showed great work-rate to chase down Kepa and force a shocking error out of the Blues stopper, leaving Liverpool with two-goal lead, and Kepa's head completely gone.
The hosts were gifted a chance to get back in the game, when Thiago tripped Timo Werner in Liverpool's box, but Jorginho stepped up but saw his perfect record from the spot come to an end thanks to Alisson’s smart save.
The two sides are in Carabao Cup action this week, with Chelsea hosting Barnsley on Wednesday while Liverpool travel to Lincoln on Thursday.
