In scenes similar to Manchester United’s 3-1 turnaround against PSG 18 months ago, Marcus Rashford stepped up in gigantic fashion on the big stage once again for Manchester United, firing home another stunning late winner against PSG.
After arresting a below-par start to the season with a 4-1 win against Newcastle at the weekend, Manchester United started right where they left off against PSG, dominating last year’s runners-up.
New signing Alex Telles was a highlight at left back, with United controlling PSG in midfield and on the wings before Bruno Fernandes saw an early penalty saved by Keylor Navas, and firing in the retake after the Costa Rican encroached.
22-year-old Axel Tuanzebe put in an impressive display shutting down Kylian Mbappe, but United’s hard work was undone when Anthony Martial put a Neymar corner in his own net at the start of the second half.
But with three minutes to go, a repeatedly dangerous Rashford took the ball outside of PSG’s box and blasted past new signing Danilo Pereira before firing a winner past a scrawling Navas.
Crisis club Barcelona managed a morale boosting 5-1 win against Ferencvaros with a superb goal from 17-year-old Ansu Fati, while on loan Manchester City fullback, Angeliño, continued to enjoy the Julian Nagelsmann effect with a world class brace in a 2-0 Leipzig win over Istanbul Basaksehir.
There was also a huge win for out of form Lazio with Ciro Immobile netting the opener in a 3-1 victory over former club Borussia Dortmund, while Alvaro Morata showed his worth with a two goal display in Juventus’ away win against Dynamo Kyiv.
