Premier League leaders Everton suffered their first defeat of the season after losing 2-0 against Southampton at St Mary's Stadium.

A fantastic and dominant first-half by the Saints saw them took the lead in the 27th minute when James Ward-Prowse played a neat one-two with Danny Ings, who provided a through ball back for Ward-Prowse to fired a superb shot past Jordan Pickford.

Just eight minutes later, Southampton doubled their lead when Ings crossed from the left side to find Che Adams at the far post and the English striker struck a shot that deflected off Gylfi Sigurdsson to beat Pickford.

Carlo Ancelotti's men were far from the level they had shown since the beginning of the season, and to make it worse they were reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute, after Lucas Digne got a red card after a nasty challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters.

The Toffees remain top of the Premier League with 13 points ahead of second-placed and city rivals Liverpool on goal difference, while Southampton moved up to fifth.

Late Murphy free-kick helps Newcastle to point at Wolves

Wolves thought they'd won it, but a free-kick from Jacob Murphy saw Newcastle rescue a point for a 1-1 draw at Molineux on Sunday.

Even though Wolves were superior throughout the game, they couldn't find a way to get past the Magpies' organized defense and only managed a single shot on target in the first-half.

In the second-half, Wolves kept pressing high and eventually took the lead in the 80th minute when Raul Jimenez met a half-cleared free kick with a fantastic shot from the edge of the area into the top corner.

But Newcastle battled until the end, like they always do, and Jacob Murphy caught out Rui Patricio by stepping up and curling a free kick around the wall and in at the near post in the 89th minute.

The draw leaves Wolves in seventh place on 10 points, with Newcastle 14th on eight points after six games.
