Ferran Torres scored his second Champions League goal in as many games in a 3-0 win for Manchester City over Marseille, while an injury hit Liverpool managed their second European win in a week despite a wobbly display against Midtjylland.

After a far from ideal start in the Premier League, City made it two wins from two in an impressive display against Andre Villas-Boas’ Marseille, with Torres’ second Champions League goal of the season backed up by İlkay Gündoğan also bagging his second to secure the win late on.

City weren’t done for the night though, scoring their third with nine minutes to play, knitting together a beautiful passing move the resulted in Kevin De Bruyne’s second assist of the game setting up Raheem Sterling.

At Anfield, an injury-hit Liverpool side were put in even more pain against Danish champions Midtjylland, with makeshift centre back Fabinho going off with a suspected hamstring injury early on.

Youngster Rhys Williams came on and held his own, before Diogo Jota netted his second in his last two games, slotting home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint assist.

A much-changed Liverpool team failed to take control of the game though, and invited pressure from Midtjylland throughout, but substitute Mohamed Salah managed to put the game to bed in stoppage time, dispatching from the spot after being taken down one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Elsewhere, Joao Felix put in a world class display for Atletico Madrid against Salzburg, scoring the equaliser and winner in a 3-2 victory, while Marcus Thuram netted two superb goals against Real Madrid, before Karim Benzema and Casemiro managed to steal a point with three minutes to play.
