Belgium ended England's hopes of qualification for the Nations League finals with a 2-0 win in Leuven on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate's side were undone by two early goals and were unable to find a way back into the contest despite dominating plenty of possession.
Leicester City's Youri Tielemans gave the Belgians the lead with a deflected effort on 10 minutes before Dries Mertens extended the hosts' advantage with a fantastic free-kick just under 15 minutes later.
England thereafter got a foothold in the game and controlled large passages of play, but were unable to penetrate the Belgians' backline.
Defeat means the Three Lions will miss out on the Nations League finals after finishing third in 2019, when Portugal hosted the inaugural showpiece.
In the other A2 group match, Christian Eriksen scored a double to earn Denmark a 2-1 win over Iceland.
Two first-half goals from the hosts decide this one.
