One of the most hotly-anticipated Serie A games in recent years, table-topping Milan's clash with champions Juventus at San Siro did not disappoint, with an end-to-end affair bursting with quality settled by a scintillating display from Federico Chiesa.
The Action: What was promised to be a thrilling match-up completely lived up to expectations as a fierce start resulted in Federico Chiesa first striking the post from distance before giving Juventus an early lead with a gorgeous finish. The young Milan side could have been forgiven if they'd let their heads drop, but got back in the game just before half-time, flooding forward before Davide Calabria dispatched a sublime curling strike.
In the second period, Chiesa, on loan from Fiorentina with an option to buy for €40 million next summer, made that price tag look minuscule when he superbly restored Juve's lead cutting inside and shooting early. Milan did eventually let their heads sink as Juventus displayed their outrageous strength in depth when substitute Dejan Kulusevski powered through and set up fellow sub Weston McKennie to end the contest.
The big picture: Milan will be disheartened, but without their two first-choice forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic (due to injury) and Ante Rebic (Covid) they still showed their enormous quality throughout. Inter could take the league lead with a game in hand, but the real story will be what happens to Juve's confidence after putting in their best display under rookie manager Andrea Pirlo.
Memorable moment: Calabria's outward-curling 1-1 goal was everything this young brave Milan side are all about. Flooding forward with Rafael Leao on a counter-attack, Milan's striker had half of his team's defence ahead of him before offloading the ball to Calabria for the beautiful equaliser.
Man of the match: Federico Chiesa's ability to overwhelm a defender before quickly sorting his feet out for a world-class finish shows just how ludicrously talented he is, and how he could be the difference if Juventus are to compete in this title race.
xG: Milan (0.90) 1-3 (2.10) Juventus
Stat of the day: Milan's Europe-leading unbeaten run ends at 27 games, dating back to the start of March 2020.
