Clash of the Day | Dortmund finally enter the title race

In what was billed as Leipzig's moment to fully announce that they're here to end Bayern Munich's eight years of dominance after the champions lost to Gladbach last night, Erling Haaland had other ideas, as he led Dortmund to their best display of the season, throwing them right into a fierce title race.

The Action: After a first 45 where both teams took time finding their range things stepped up in the second, when a returning Erling Haaland broke into the Leipzig box surrounded by players but managed to find a gap to pull the ball back to Marco Reus, who flicked it on for Jadon Sancho to easily sweep home his second of a difficult season.

Dortmund began to completely dominate proceedings before a team goal of the season contender saw Jadon Sancho dink Raphaël Guerreiro's backheel to the far post for a Haaland insurance goal, and then the big man was involved once more, collecting a Reus pass before rounding Péter Gulácsi and securing a huge three points, despite a late Alexander Sørloth consolation goal.

The Big Picture: Lucien Favre apologists blamed his departure on Haaland's injury, but this was the kind of big game performance that the Swiss coach could never muster up, with his interim replacement, Edin Terzić, showing there's far more to this team, and now just five points off the lead, there could be far more to this season.

Memorable Moment: Dortmund's second was a goal Leipzig would have been proud of even with some of the gems they've scored this season, Sancho looked back to his best, and with the main men firing there's plenty of optimism Dortmund can succeed with Favre now gone.

Man of the Match: Leipzig's start to the season had probably been the most impressive of any Bundesliga team, with goals coming from all over the pitch following Timo Werner's departure, but the league's best defence got a lesson form Haaland who looked ready to take the fight to Bayern.

      xG: Leipzig (1.70) 1-3 (1.92) Dortmund

Stat of the Day: Erling Haaland has now scored 25 goals in his first 25 Bundesliga games.
