Glorious Champions League nights are back and the only English team in action this week did their job admirably: Liverpool shelving their recent difficulties to record a tremendous 2-0 away win against Leipzig.
The same night, Kylian Mbappe sensationally threw down the gauntlet to the best players on the planet: the young Frenchman's hat-trick v Messi's Barcelona at the Camp Nou showcasing a generational talent.
The next day, Erling Haaland launched into action with a brace and an assist in Dortmund's 3-2 away win at Sevilla. After the game, the Norwegian striker said "“When I saw Mbappe score the hat-trick, I got free motivation, so thanks to him. He scored some nice goals and I got a free boost from him. So yeah, it was nice.”
After so many years of Lionel Messi v Cristiano Ronaldo, the next elite rivalry is simmering nicely...
Like Haaland, we've also drawn inspiration from Mbappe...for our weekly quiz. We went through every Champions League hat-trick scored at an English stadium, by any team.
Your, admittedly tough, task is to name the 19 hat-tricks on English soil since the dawn of the Champions League era. Of the nineteen, only two were scored by the away team.
It's a tough gig...but we promise to dial down the difficulty next week. Good luck!
