Klopp plans to block players from World Cup qualifiers

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he may stop some of his players travelling for the next set of World Cup qualifiers, with Fifa rules allowing clubs to stop effected players linking up with their national sides.

Under current government rules, anyone arriving in the UK from a country red-listed for Covid variants will have to undertake a 10-day hotel quarantine, which would apply to Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, Fabinho, and Diogo Jota.

The German coach commented on the situation saying: "I think all the clubs agree that with the same problems we cannot just let the boys go and then sort the situation when they come back by placing our players in a 10-day quarantine in a hotel, it is just not possible.

"I understand the needs of the different football associations but this is a time where we cannot make everyone happy and we have to admit the players are paid by the clubs so it means we have to be first priority."

The upcoming international break is scheduled for the 23rd of March to the 1st of April, featuring the first round of Europe’s World Cup qualifiers ahead of Qatar 2022.
