Real Madrid will be without both of their first-choice centre backs for tonight’s first-leg Champions League quarter-final clash against Liverpool at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano tonight.

Captain Sergio Ramos had only recently returned from injury before seeing a relapse while away with Spain on national duty, and he’s now been left at home along with Raphaël Varane, who has today tested positive for Covid-19.

Madrid appeared to have a massive upper hand over Liverpool when it comes to the defensive side of things, with the Reds losing all three of their first-choice centre backs to injury throughout the course of this season.

However, Zinedine Zidane will now be equally shorthanded during the most crucial week of his side’s season which sees a Clasico fixture against Barcelona at the weekend before their second match against Liverpool next week.

Real Madrid will also be without perenially injured Edin Hazard who only just returned to the squad, and are expected to play a 3-1-4-2 with Nacho, Ferland Mendy and Eder Militao flanked by Marcelo and Lucas Vazquez.
