EFL: Winners & losers

Here are our winners and losers from up and down the EFL after some fascinating action across the Championship, League One and League Two during Matchweek 9.

WINNERS

Coventry City (Championship)

Mark Robin's men climbed to third in the Championship table following a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Peterborough at the Ricoh on Friday evening.

A brace from summer signing Viktor Gyokeres helped the Sky Blues secure their six victory of the season and they now sit just two points off Bournemouth at the top of the table.

West Bromwich Albion (Championship)

The Baggies climbed to second place in the Championship table with victory over QPR at The Hawthorns after a late Karlan Grant brace helped complete a turnaround for Valerien Ismael's side.

With five victories from their opening nine, the West Midlands club look odds-on favourites for promotion to the Premier League this season.

Plymouth Argyle (League One)

Plymouth have continued to impress building on their recent good run of three wins out of four, with a 2-1 victory over Doncaster at Home Park earlier today.

Penalties from Conor Grant and Luke Jephcott helped secure the victory for Ryan Lowe's side and send them up into fourth position in the third tier.

Crawley Town (League Two)

Crawley continued their impressive run of form with another victory this afternoon: 2-1 over Bradford City at The People's Pension Stadium.

Goals from Will Ferry and Nicholas Tsaroulla pushed the home side up into 8th position, following a string of four league games unbeaten, three of which being victories.

LOSERS

Huddersfield Town (Championship)

The Terriers were defeated 1-0 in South Wales at the hands of Swansea at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon.

Joel Piore's first goal for Swansea was enough to consign the Yorkshire side to defeat and see them drop out of the Championship play-off places and into 7th, following two straight defeats on the bounce.

Cardiff City (Championship)

Cardiff were demolished 5-1 by Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park to leave them languishing in 13th position in the table after a promising start to the season.

A hat-trick from man of the match Ben Brereton-Diaz left the Bluebirds with no route back into the game as they went into the break 4-0 down. Results such as this will spell the end of any promotion charge for Mick McCarthy's side.

Bolton Wanderers (League One)

Bolton slipped to 9th following a narrow defeat at Sunderland this afternoon.

An early winner from Carl Winchester could not be answered and Bolton who started the day in the top six now lie two points off the play-offs with 12 points following two straight defeats in the league. The wind has rather been taken out of Wanderers' sails.

Walsall (League Two)

Walsall fell to a second consecutive defeat, this time dropping a lead at home to Bristol Rovers to lose 2-1 and drop to 22nd, just a point off the bottom two.

Following an awful start to the season, Walsall looked to have turned around their form following a run of two victories but Matthew Taylor's men look to have regressed to their early season form and look in serious trouble of being dragged into a fight to stay in the Football League this season.
