Substitute Cauley Woodrow secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for Luton over Everton in the FA Cup fourth round at Goodison Park.
Everton's fate took a gloomy turn when Vitaliy Mykolenko, inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the late stages of the first half after Alfie Doughty's corner delivery reached the near post, leaving Mykolenko with little room to maneuver.
Although Everton managed to level the score nine minutes into the second half, after some good attacking play led to Beto finding Jack Harrison with a fine lobbed pass on the right, the winger dribbled inside and struck a low shot from 20 yards out.
After that the game was even but the visitors were creating better opportunities. Elijah Adebayo's attempt forced a remarkable save from goalkeeper Joao Virginia, while Carlton Morris had a shot cleared off the line by Nathan Patterson.
Despite the tie being evenly poised, both teams failed to capitalise on key moments, maintaining a level of wastefulness seen in the first half.
As the game looked like it was going for a replay, in the 96th minute substitute Cauley Woodrow volleyed in from close range during a goalmouth scramble after the Toffees failed to clear the ball following a corner.
This win marks only the second time since 2012-13 that Luton has reached the FA Cup's fifth round, a significant achievement for a team that was in the Conference Premier (now National League) at the time.
