City bag five in easy win over Luton

Manchester City cruised past Luton Town to go to top of the Premier League table once again ahead of Sunday's fixtures.

The Hatters came to Manchester and spent most of the time camped inside their own half. It took just two minutes for the reigning champions to take the lead, albeit with an element of luck.

Erling Haaland was played through on goal but had his shot stopped by the on-rushing Thomas Kaminski. Luton weren't able to clear their lines though and Haaland's second attempt bounced off the head of the unfortunate Daiki Hashioka and into the net.

Surprisingly it took until the 64th minute for City to double their lead – although they had gone close in that time with Matheus Nunes hitting the woodwork in the first half.

That second goal was worth the wait though with Mateo Kovacic producing a sublime finish from a well-worked City corner routine.

The third goal came from the penalty spot when Jérémy Doku was brought down in the area by Fred Onyedinma. Haaland, of course, buried the resulting penalty.

Rob Edwards' team did get one goal back in the 81st minute when Ross Barkley took advantage of some lax play by City to waltz into the box and fire past Ederson.

However, City were able to extend their lead even further in the final minutes of the match.

First, Doku picked up the ball on the left side then danced his way through the Luton defence before curling a finish into the corner of the net.

Doku was involved again in City's fifth as he played the ball to Josko Gvardiol on the edge of the area with the Croatian hitting a similar effort to his previous one against Real Madrid.

The Citizens can now put their feet up as they hope either as they wait to see what title challengers Arsenal and Liverpool do in Sunday's game. Luton meanwhile will need to regroup after this bruising defeat ahead of their game against Brentford.

As a fan of the reigning champions, I have to say, what a dominant performance by Manchester City! Luton Town didn't stand a chance and we showed our quality once again. Haaland may have gotten a bit lucky with his goal, but it's all about being in the right place at the right time. And Kovacic's goal was just pure class.

As a fan of Manchester City, I can't help but feel disappointed with Luton's performance. They hardly put up a fight and just sat back in their own half. Even though we got a lucky goal, I was hoping for a more exciting game. But at least we're back on top of the table!

As a Manchester City fan, I am thrilled with our performance against Luton Town. We dominated the game and showed our class as reigning champions. Haaland's goal may have been lucky, but we deserved the win. Can't wait to see us continue this form in the Premier League.

As a Manchester City fan, I am extremely pleased with our dominant performance against Luton Town today. We showed our class and took the lead early on, even with a bit of luck. Our second goal was a thing of beauty, a great team effort. Up the Blues!
