Middlesbrough are in the relegation zone after they could only manage a goalless draw at home to Rotherham United.
It was a game of few chances at the Riverside Stadium with Chris Wilder’s team struggling to create with Rotherham set up to hit their opponents on the counter.
Duncan Watmore had the best chance of the game early in the second half when rounded goalkeeper Viktor Johansson only to see his resulting shot bounce back off the inside of the post.
The Millers ended the game without a single shot on target but they have now kept five clean sheets this season and have the third best defensive record in the Championship (behind Preston and Sheffield United) having conceded just six times all season. Should Paul Warne’s team stay this solid they should have no problems staying up this year.
Chris Wilder will have some thinking to do over the international break, Boro have won just two of their opening 10 games this season.
Reading managed a 1-0 win away at Wigan Athletic to move to third in the table. Following the Royals just behind in fourth is Burnley who won at home to Bristol City after a run of two draws in a row.
Sunderland’s impressive start to the season following their promotion continued with a 2-2 draw at home to Watford. Jewison Bennette came off the bench to strike late and take a point back to the North East.
At the bottom of the table, Coventry City still can’t manage a win and were once again left frustrated in their goalless draw away at Saint Andrews.
But there was better news for Huddersfield Town who won their second game of the season with a 1-0 win at home Cardiff City thanks to Jordan Rhodes early goal.
