Brentford has completed the signing of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from the German Bundesliga side Freiburg.
Acording to reports, the transfer fee for the Netherlands international goalkeeper is €13 million (£11.2 million).
Flekken has agreed to a four-year contract with the Bees, pending international clearance and a work permit.
He had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, keeping 13 clean sheets in 34 matches during the 2022-23 campaign, which was the highest number of clean sheets in the league.
Brentford decided to strengthen their goalkeeper options due to uncertainty surrounding David Raya's future. Raya, who currently has one year remaining on his contract, has rejected two offers to extend his deal with the club.
Speaking to the club's media team head coach Thomas Frank said: “We’re very happy to have signed Mark,”
“He’s a player with a lot of quality who will strengthen our goalkeeper group. He has big experience and joins us after two great seasons with Freiburg, who have just had a top season in the Bundesliga, finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League.
“He was a big part of the team there and now he’s coming to us and will hopefully make the group better and the team better. He’s a very good shot-stopper and comfortable with the ball at his feet. His distribution is very impressive.”
