England made it a perfect 10 out of 10 in their World Cup Qualification campaign with a 10-0 win against Luxembourg.
The European champions sealed their spot in the 2023 World Cup with a 2-0 against Austria to make this a dead rubber of a tie.
However, Sarina Wiegman’s team didn’t treat this game as a walk in the park. They kept their intensity and blew away their less illustrious opposition.
For the first goal, Alessia Russo was brought down in the 10th minute with Georgia Stanway converting the resulting penalty. Just eight minutes later it was Russo herself on the scoresheet as she headed in Leah Williamson’s cross.
Stanway got her second of the game to make it 3-0 in the 26th minute when she capped an excellent team move.
The fourth came from the head of Rachel Daly before Beth Mead made it 5-0 just a minute later.
Beth England came on in the second half and only had to wait a few minutes to score when she converted Mead’s low cross.
Three Manchester United players combined for the seventh. Katie Zelem found Ella Toone who tied up new arrival Nikita Parris who gave goalkeeper Lucie Schlime no chance.
Toone had been looking to get her name on the scoresheet all game and eventually she made it 8-0 from the penalty spot after Parris was tripped.
Then to add extra shine to the scoreline England scored two goals in two minutes at the end of the game. Lauren Hemp converted from close range in the 90th minute before Beth England got her second and England’s 10th in stoppage time.
So, England finished their group with 10 games, 10 wins and with a remarkable record of 80 goals scored and not a single goal conceded.
