Germany national team coach Hansi Flick has been sacked following a 4-1 friendly defeat at home to Japan.
The former Bayern Munich manager has been under pressure since the Nationalelf failed to navigate the group stage during the 2022 World Cup with Spain and Japan progressing instead.
Since the World Cup, Germany have played six games in 2023 winning the first 2-0 against Peru but losing four and drawing one of the remaining five.
“The committee agreed that the German national team needs a fresh impetus after the recent disappointing results,” said Bernd Neuendorf, president of the DFB.
“Going into the European Championship next summer, we need confidence and optimism in the country regarding our team. This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make during my time in this role because I really respect Hansi Flick and his assistants, both on a professional and personal level. Sporting success is of the utmost importance to the DFB, which is why this decision had to be made.”
Rudi Völler will take charge for Germany's next match against France together alongside coaches Sandro Wagner and Hannes Wolf.
