Leyton Orient have been crowned champions after a 2-0 victory at home to Crewe Alexandra while Rochdale are down to the National League.

The O’s needed Stevenage to drop points and themselves to win to seal the title today and that’s exactly what happened. Boro were defeated 1-0 on the road against Mansfield Town while George Moncur opened the scoring for the penalty spot at Brisbane Road before Charlie Kelman sealed the win.

It’s a remarkable achievement for manager Richie Wellens who joined Leyton Orient when the club was 20th in the table in March last year and has now completely turned their fortunes around.

But it’s a sad day for Rochdale fans who see their team relegated to the National League and out of the English Football League after over a century.

The Dale had to win away at Stockport County to avoid relegation but went down to Isaac Olaofe’s goal in first-half stoppage time.

Rochdale will likely be joined in the fifth tier by Hartlepool United who drifted even further from safety after a 2-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Crawley Town.
