The Lionesses scored six goals at Hampden Park but it wasn't enough to progress to the Nations League finals meaning that there will be no Team GB at the Olympics.
England were dominant from the off in Glasgow with Alex Greenwood opening the scoring in the 12th minute when she was unmarked and able to head in Beth Mead's cross.
Lauren James was causing the Scottish defence plenty of problems but she got a bit of luck when she made it 2-0 from a shot that took a massive deflection in the 38th minute.
The Chelsea forward scored a minute later but this strike was a classic curling effort from the outside of the box that goalkeeper Lee Gibson got a hand to but couldn't keep out.
It was 4-0 just seconds before half-time when Beth Mead got her first goal for the Lionesses in 15 months.
England built on their advantage soon into the second half, this time Georgia Stanway's great play to get to the byline was rewarded as her pass found Fran Kirby to tap the ball into an empty net.
Sarina Wiegman's team looked tired as they tried to search for more goals, knowing they had to stay ahead of the Netherlands.
That allowed Scotland to get back into the game. Kirsty Hanson almost pulled one back for the home side when went around Earps but couldn't get the ball into the net under pressure. Marta Thomas went closest for Scotland, her header forced a superb save out of Earps in stoppage time.
Lucy Bronze looked like she may have done enough for England when she finished from Ella Toone's pass to make it 6-0.
However, there was one late twist as the Netherlands scored two stoppage time goals of their own to win 4-0 at home to Belgium and go top of the group on goal difference – ending England's Nations League hopes and Team GB's chances of reaching the Olympics.
