Aston Villa took their summer spending spree past the £100m mark with the signing of talented Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Manchester City.
The 21-year-old is the Villans' 10th signing since their promotion from the Championship, and he joins for a fee of £15m.
The Brazilian youth international joined City from Vasco da Gama in 2017, but never played a game for the reigning Premier League champions.
Luiz has spent the last two seasons playing on loan in La Liga: 46 appearances in total for Girona, who were relegated from the Spanish top flight last season.
A move was always on the cards for Luiz after his request for a work permit at City was rejected last August.
Villa's deal for the Brazilian is also subject to a work permit. The Midlanders' boss Dean Smith spoke highly about his latest recruit:
"Douglas is an extremely talented young player with an outstanding pedigree who I am sure will fit nicely into our style and system of play," said Smith.
Luiz underlined his talent last month when he was named Player of the Tournament at the Toulon tournament - which Brazil's Under-23 side won.
“Today is a really happy moment in my life and career. I hope I can be a leader in the team and live up to all the expectations as best as I can.”
