Italy maintained their perfect record winning seven from seven becoming the second team to qualify for next summer’s tournament, as Spain missed the chance to join them.

Second-half goals from Jorginho and Fede Bernardeschi gave the below-par Italians a 2-0 win that never looked in threat from Greece, as Roberto Mancini’s side join Belgium in qualifying for Euro 2020.

Spain faced a tough test away at a Norway side missing headline grabber Erling Haland, but an ever improving Martin Odegaard was enough to challenge the two-time Euro Champions.

Saul gave Spain the lead just after half-time, with a long range effort that Norway keeper Rune Jarstein got to, but let through his hands.

However in stoppage time, Spain’s goalkeeper Kepa made a mistake of his own, coming to punch a forward ball clear but instead finding Norway captain Omar Elabdellaoui, allowing Josh King to equalise from the spot for a much deserved point.

Away in Georgia, The Republic of Ireland were left incredibly frustrated to take part in a goalless game, missing the chance to extend their lead at the top of Group D. However, Mick McCarthy’s side remain unbeaten in their qualification campaign, and Brighton youngster Aaron Connolly looked impressive once again.

In Spain’s Group F, Sweden and Romania both picked up expected wins, with long time Premier League set piece specialist, Sebastian Larsson scoring twice from the spot in a 4-0 win over Matla for the Swedes. And Reading’s George Puscas netted in a 3-0 victory over the Faroe Islands for an ever-improving Romania.

The race for the second qualifying spot in Italy’s Group J hotted up with Bosnia and Herzegovina smashing second placed Finland 4-1 to move two points behind them and level with Armenia, in a game where the brilliant Miralem Pjanic netted twice.

Elsewhere, Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen scored the only goal of the game in a late win for Denmark over Switzerland that moves them joint on points at the top of Group D with Ireland, and Armenia missed their chance to go second in Group J, drawing 1-1 away in Liechtenstein.
