The FIFA game franchise has sold almost 300 million copies worldwide since its first iteration in 1993.

While it is not as detailed as the Football Manager database, FIFA 20 can offer an accurate look at the future stars of tomorrow.

With set ratings and potentials, we can see who FIFA predicts will be ruling the world of football in the coming years. But how are these players performing off of the virtual pitch?

In this article, Playmaker considers how FIFA 20’s top wonder-kids have been performing in real life:

Eduardo Camavinga – Potential of 90

The ball-winning central midfielder is one of just two wonder-kids with an overall potential of 90 on FIFA 20.

Eduardo Camavinga is a defensive midfielder that likes to be at the heart of the battle in the centre of the pitch. In his first full-season as a starter for Rennes, the 17-year-old has won more tackles than any other midfielder in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues with an incredible 106. He is also fouled an average 2.4 times per game, which makes him the most fouled player for his side.

He is Rennes’ best performing midfielder this season, with the highest pass success rate for players above 20 appearances, at 88%.

The French-U21 international has continued this great form into 2020 with an average of four tackles, two clearances and one interception per game.

In his last appearance before the league suspension due to the COVID-19 outbreak, he had another top performance as Rennes beat Montpellier 5-0 at home. He registered a pass success rate of 97% with one assist, two key passes and seven long balls.

As the rightful heir to the Claude Makélélé and N’Golo Kanté role, you can expect to see Eduardo Camavinga at one of the top club’s in Europe within the next two seasons.

Ansu Fati – Potential of 90

The second of the two wonder-kids with a potential rating of 90 is Barcelona’s youngest ever goal scorer, Ansu Fati.

Fati joined La Masia from Sevilla at the age of 9, where he played until he signed his first professional contract with Barcelona in the summer of 2019. Since then, the direct left-winger has been Barcelona’s best performing player under the age of 21.

In 2020, The Spanish-U21 international has four La Liga starts. In this period, he has completed ten shots, six dribbles and five key passes. This proves his attacking worth, even in a side packed with world-class talent.

His best performance so far this season came just over a month ago in a 2-1 win over Levante. In just his sixth start for Barcelona, the 17-year-old scored twice from five shots. He also achieved a 93% pass success rate with three key passes and four crosses. Another surprising statistic is that he also completed the most tackles (4) all game.

La Masia has a record of both producing phenoms and flops, but only time will tell if Ansu Fati will be another Messi, or another Bojan.

Mason Greenwood – Potential of 89

Mason Greenwood recently revealed on Instagram when United scouts first saw him. His under-7’s team were 2-0 down at half-time, before Greenwood was substituted on. He went on to score an unbelievable ten goals to win the game for his side.

“Scoring goals is just natural for him” is how former-striker and current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær described Mason Greenwood.

Saying that scoring is just natural for the two-footed inside forward is obvious to anyone who has seen him play. In just five minutes and with only four
touches against LASK in the Europa League, Greenwood scored one goal and completed three passes.

The English-U21 striker is now valued by Transfermarkt in the top-35 most valuable strikers in the world, above talent like Gonzalo Higuain, Dries Mertens and Edison Cavani.

However, the 18-year-old has found his home more at right wing this season, where he likes to cut inside to his favoured left foot. In six starts in the position, Greenwood has scored six goals and assisted one.

Greenwood has won one MotM award in an amazing performance against AZ Alkmaar at Old Trafford.

He scored twice, registering three shots, three key passes and two aerial duel wins in the Europa League tie.

The wonder-kid will certainly have his sights set on an England squad place for the Euros in 2021. If he can pick up where he left off after the COVID-19 suspension, it would not be a shock to see the youngster line-up for Gareth Southgate.
