6. Bébé: 2 Premier League appearances, 0 goals

If Bruno Fernandes wants to glean any tips on what not to do at Old Trafford, he could probably learn a lesson or two from Bébé's strange and deeply underwhelming stint in Manchester.

Signed for £7.4 million from Vitoria Guimarães, despite having never played for the Primeira Liga outfit, Bébé was heralded as one of the last of a dying breed of 'Street Footballers' - an unconventional genius who could show a pampered generation of academy products how it was done. 

Raised in an orphanage after spending part of his childhood on the streets, Bébé came with an appearance for Portugal in the Homeless World Cup on his CV, and with such an incredible backstory the stage seemed set for a blockbuster rags-to-riches story. 

Certainly unconventional, genius was sadly lacking, however, for the previously unknown 20-year-old. 

Alex Ferguson entrusted the winger with just two Premier League starts: a 0-0 draw against Sunderland and a 2-1 win against Wolves, so at least he can say he was undefeated in the English top flight.

However, after two goals in just seven appearances, Bébé quietly moved back to his homeland where he then failed to make the grade at Benfica. 

Still only 29, and currently playing in the Spanish second tier for Rayo Vallecano, Bébe will always be regarded as one of Ferguson and United's most random and least successful signings. 

The more cynical may, with some justification, say Bébé's move to United represents Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes´most outrageous success.
