Football Association chairman Greg Clarke believes it is difficult to see crowds returning to football matches "any time soon".

With the 2019/20 top flight and EFL seasons currently suspended, talks are ongoing regarding competitive fixtures resuming behind closed doors.

Preparations are therefore being made for the 2020/21 season taking place without fans.

"The reality is that we just don't know how things are going to pan out," Clarke stated in a letter to the governing council of the FA.

"But with social distancing in place for some time to come we do face substantial changes to the whole football ecosystem.

"For example it's hard to foresee crowds of fans - who are the lifeblood of the game - returning to matches any time soon."

In the letter, Clarke highlighted that the FA's executive team is "building out different scenarios that we might potentially face as a result of the pandemic," and predicted a potential budget cut of £75m this year.
