With his shock goal against Cheltenham on Tuesday, Newport goalkeeper Tom King has been awarded the Guinness World Records for the longest goal scored in a competitive football match.
King’s goal kick bounced and had some wind assistance before glancing over opposition keeper Josh Griffiths, with Guinness declaring the distance of 96.01 metres (105 yards) a new world record.

King overtakes the previous best of 91.9 m (100.50 yds) set by Asmir Begovic for Stoke against Southampton in a 2013 Premier League match.
Welshman King joined the Exiles in 2019 and has been a key member of their table-topping League Two side which has even earned a call up to the national team.
One betting company got the ball rolling, tweeting Guinness World Records to ask if King was a record holder, soon after they replied saying “we’re looking into it” and with a story on their website today confirming the feat, King simply tweeted “Get in”.
