Goal machine Lewandowski returns to light training

Europe’s leading goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, may cut short his incredibly untimely four-week absence, with the striker returning to light training today.

The Bundesliga’s top scorer was brutally ruled out of action for a month following a cruciate ligament injury two weeks ago whilst away with Poland on international duty.

Lewandowski was out of a top of the table clash with Leipzig which Bayern impressively won, before they fell 3-2 to PSG in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, and he was most recently sorely missed during the weekend’s draw against Union Berlin.

Lewandowski will be out again tomorrow night as Bayern look to overcome PSG, and he is likely to miss another crucial league game against third-placed Wolfsburg at the weekend. However, he could return for what could well be a must-win meeting against Bayer Leverkusen next Tuesday, and be ready for a potential European semi-final.

PSG will have a huge opportunity to pass into the last four, with Bayern again missing Niklas Süle and Leon Goretzka who both went off injured during the first-half of their first-leg clash, while forward Serge Gnabry looks set to miss the tie after a positive Covid test.
