Neymar has today extended his contract at PSG until 2025, with the world’s most expensive footballer expressing his delight despite a couple of difficult weeks for his side.
The Brazilian has won three French league titles and four cups since his arrival from Barcelona for an eye-watering world record €222 million in 2017, whilst finishing as a runner-up in the Champions League after a 1-0 final loss against Bayern Munich last season.
Things haven’t exactly gone brilliantly this season either, with PSG getting comprehensively beaten by Manchester City over two legs in the semi-finals of the European Cup last week, while domestically they look set to surrender the Ligue 1 title to Lille.
29-year-old Neymar, who recently became Brazil’s second highest ever scorer, said of the deal: “I’m really pleased to continue my adventure at Paris Saint-Germain.
“I’m very happy in Paris, and proud to be part of this squad, to work with these players, a great coach and to be part of the history of this club. These are things that make me believe even more in this great project.
“I have grown as a person here, as a human being and as a player, too. So I am very happy to extend my contract and I hope to win many more trophies here."
Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris side currently sit second in Ligue 1, four points behind Lille who have played a game more, which came against their toughest final test, where they beat Lens 3-0 last night.
