Top clubs across Europe have been put on red alert as AC Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini has confirmed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave the club on a free transfer.
Italy number one Donnarumma is one of the highest-rated young goalkeepers in world football at the age of 22, and his departure from the club he’s been with for the past eight years comes as a huge shock.
The likes of PSG, Chelsea and Juventus will likely be hoping to enter discussions with Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola, while Milan have already found a replacement in the shape of Lille’s Ligue 1 winning keeper, Mike Maignan for a fee of just €13 million.
Maldini confirmed the departure in a strong statement, saying: “People sometimes don’t realise what it means to be a professional.”
