Danny Ings looks set to depart Southampton after three seasons, turning down a four-year contract offer from the club, in favour of testing himself at a higher level.
The Athletic report Ings has turned down the opportunity to become the highest-paid player in Southampton’s history, despite optimism he would re-sign.
Ings earned his shot in the higher echelons of the league with Liverpool in 2015, but suffered huge injury issues as well as big competition for his spot, featuring just 25 times in three seasons.
The 28-year-old went on loan to St. Mary’s for the 2018/19 season, signing permanently the following year where he notched an impressive 22-goal Premier League campaign, before dropping off slightly last season as fitness problems returned.
Ings has long been linked to Tottenham Hotspur, and may still be on the club’s radar, even if they hold onto England captain Harry Kane.
