31-goal striker Charlie Wyke has announced his departure from League One side Sunderland, with Wigan reportedly on the verge of winning the race for his signature.

28-year-old Wyke joined The Black Cats from Bradford in 2018 and came to life last season with 25 goals in League One, before attracting interest from Celtic as well as a number of Championship sides.

However, Wigan, who narrowly avoided relegation from the third tier last season, appear to be on the brink of snaring the aerially dominant forward, tabling a £10,000 per-week contract offer.

Sky Sports report that Wyke has already travelled to meet the Latics head of a medical, while Chris Maguire will also be departing the Stadium of Light to join Lincoln, as Sunderland attempt to soften the blow with the signing of Alex Pritchard from Huddersfield Town.
