Former Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City striker, Daniel Sturridge, has emerged from a year away from football to begin a trial with LaLiga side Real Mallorca ahead of a potential return to action.
Sturridge left Liverpool in 2019 as a Champions League winner, joining Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, but following a decent start where he recorded seven goals in 16 games, the forward had his contract terminated after receiving a worldwide football ban for breaching betting rules.
Sturridge’s initial ban related to instructing his brother to bet on a move to Sevilla, and now the 31-year-old looks like he may finally seal a move to Spain with Real Mallorca.
The promoted side announced that the former England international would begin training with them via their website yesterday, although it’s unclear whether a move for the striker will follow.
“I’m training so intensely that my performance is better than eight years ago,” said Sturridge in an interview with Jake Humphrey. “I’m better than before. I’m older, I have more knowledge, my body is in good shape. In terms of my physical form, I didn’t think it was possible to be able to do the things I’m doing now. I’m proving to myself it’s possible and I’m proud of it.”
