In one of two all Premier League clashes in the second round of the Carabao Cup (the other tomorrow between Newcastle and Burnley), Watford edged past Crystal Palace with a 1-0 win at Vicarage Road.

A late goal from summer signing Ashley Fletcher, in his first game for the Hornets, guided his new club into the third round with Palace manager Patrick Vieira still awaiting his first win in charge of the Eagles.

Elsewhere, Bruno Lage recorded his first win as Wolves manager in style. A 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest ensured safe passage for Wanderers, who hit all four of their goals in the second-half courtesy of Romain Saiss, Daniel Podence, summer signing Francisco Trincão and Morgan Gibbs-White

Aston Villa and Norwich, meanwhile, both filled their boots and pounded six unanswered goals past their respective opponents. The Villans battered League Two Barrow, while the Canaries cruised past Scott Parker's beleaguered Bournemouth.

Only a trio of sides punched above their weight to beat teams from the division above: Sunderland, Oldham and Rochdale.

The Black Cats travelled to newly-promoted Championship outfit Blackpool and racked up a 3-2 victory, while the Latics beat League One Accrington on penalties after a 0-0 draw. Relegated from the third tier last season, Rochdale ended League One Shrewsbury's Carabao adventure with a 2-0 win in Shropshire.
