Winners and losers: Leagues One and Two

A limited programme of League One and Two fixtures went ahead over this international weekend, and here's a summary of who enjoyed a great break...and who got broken.

      WINNERS

      Accrington Stanley

Running out 1-0 victors over Shrewsbury this weekend, Accrington boosted themselves up into second position in the League One table, level on points with Sunderland who they travel to next Saturday.

With certain games postponed in the third tier with players away on international duty, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan, Portsmouth, Burton and Rotherham all have a game in hand on Stanley, but John Coleman's men have the points on the board.

Accrington look to be a real threat this season and Joel Mumbongo's solo effort was enough to sink the struggling Shrews.

      Harrogate Town

Harrogate catapulted to the top of the League Two table this weekend with an impressive 3-1 victory away at Mansfield.

Goals from George Thomson, Luke Armstrong and Jack Muldoon helped Town clinch top position. With a game still in hand over the rest of the top 4 in L2, including Forest Green Rovers and Bradford City who could both only manage draws this weekend, Harrogate look like dark horses for a sustained promotion push.

      Northampton Town

Northampton jumped up to fifth position in the League Two table, just three points off leaders Harrogate, after a comfortable 2-0 victory over struggling Scunthorpe.

Goals from Sam Hoskins and Danny Rose put an end to a bad run of four games without a win for Australian Jon Brady's side. Northampton face a tough test next week however when they travel to second play Forest Green Rovers to take on the Green Army.

      LOSERS

      Oxford United

Oxford were defeated 3-1 at Wimbledon this weekend despite taking the lead on half-time through Mark Sykes.

The U's conceded three in the second half to drop to seventh position, with the majority of teams around them now with a game in hand. A damaging defeat all round.

      Hartlepool United

Jeff Stelling will not be a happy man this weekend as his beloved Hartlepool fell to a 1-0 defeat away at Tranmere.

The result saw them drop out of the top four and down into sixth position. A late winner from Tranmere's Tom Davies left Hartlepool boss Dave Challinor with a headache - and he will have to pick his side up now with Bristol Rovers next up at home this coming weekend.
