Lionel Messi scored his first Paris Saint-Germain goal as they recorded an impressive 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Parc des Princes.

The Action: After a frenetic start, PSG took an early lead when Idrissa Gueye placed an unstoppable shot into the top corner, after eight minutes.

From that point onwards, Man City dominated the game with the hosts looking to defend deep and play on the counter attack.

Pep Guardiola's side somehow failed to level the scoreline when they hit the woodwork twice in the blink of an eye, Raheem Sterling's header rebounding off the bar and Bernardo Silva then striking the woodwork with an empty net in front of him.

The Citizens kept pressing high in the second-half, but when it was not the bar, City found a wall in Gigi Donnarumma who made seven saves in the game.

The hosts ended up doubling the lead in the 74th minute, when Messi scored a lovely goal from 20-yards out, playing a one-two pass with Kylian Mbappe and then curling past Ederson.

Big Picture: Normally a 2-0 win would be deemed a comfortable result for the hosts, but City will feel aggrieved not to have got something from a game that they dominated.

PSG now lead Group A after two games with a win and a draw, level on points with Club Brugge who defeated RB Leipzig in a impressive 2-1 away win. Man City are third, a point adrift of the early leaders.

The Mancunians will now focus their attention back on the Premier League as they travel to Anfield to face leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Memorable moment: Lionel Messi's first goal for PSG. A genius moment from a genius, who finally delivered the goal PSG fans had been waiting for.

Man of the match: Idrissa Gueye. When they are surrounded by so many superstars, it is easy to overlook players who do the 'dirty jobs', but Gueye was superb throughout.

The former Everton player pressed, tackled and covered his teammates out of position...and scored the opener. A great display by the Senegalese midfielder.

      xG: PSG (0.48) 2-0 (1.97) Man City

Stat of the Day: Messi has scored 27 goals in 35 appearances against English teams in the UEFA Champions League; 15 more than any other player in the competition.
